The Chennai Residence is conceived as a compact urban home that balances privacy, natural ventilation, and contemporary architectural expression. The design combines exposed concrete volumes with terracotta screen walls to create a façade that responds to sunlight, airflow, and the surrounding residential context. By integrating shaded outdoor spaces and large openings, the residence enhances thermal comfort while maintaining a strong visual identity.

A façade that balances solidity and permeability

The architectural language is defined by a bold concrete volume that appears to float above the lower level. This solid mass is contrasted with perforated terracotta screens that filter light, improve airflow, and introduce warmth to the material palette. The composition creates depth across the façade while reducing direct solar exposure on the upper-level living spaces.

A shaded balcony designed for everyday living

The upper-level balcony acts as an intermediate space between the interior and the outdoors. Protected by the projecting concrete volume and framed by terracotta screens, the balcony remains usable throughout much of the day despite Chennai’s warm climate. This semi-open space extends the living area and encourages natural ventilation across the residence.
